Reading "Two Kinds" from The Joy Luck Club

Today we read the "Two Kinds" short story from "The Joy Luck Club". We learned about how sometimes the expectations placed on a child can really impact their identity, most times in a negative way. Along with that we learned that these huge expectations can actually lead to the disconnect between families. Again I enjoy reading texts even if I'm tired from the day that I just had It's a nice change of pace. My day was nice because our whole first period was taken up buy a math test and I finished way ahead of time, and to be honest it was pretty easy, so I got to just sit on my phone for the duration of the period. But my fifth period was a drag it felt as though the whole period lasted 3 hours and I was so exhausted that I just wanted to go home and take a cold shower.

"Two Kinds" Blog question

The conflict was about my grades sometime in the last 2 years. My grades were not the best and my mom was really worried that I would fail the school year. So she kind of yelled at me and scolded me for not doing well, I didn't really respond I was quiet for the majority of the argument but I would say things here and there. I realized that I really do hate arguments especially when they get heated, I even hate them when I'm not even invloved. Our relationship didn't really change all that much, I guess that she had been in a few arguments like that with my brother that she was kind of used to it. I also just kind of threw it to the side and from that point nothing changed but I did improve my grades just enough to be satisfied.

"Two Kinds" reading disccusion questions

Today we read Two Kinds and discussed over some questions. We learned that some peoples whole relationship with their parents is just them trying to satisfy their parents needs for success and skill. Some parents think that their great sacrifice with net them some big reward, but sometimes it doesn't and they take that out on their family. I like when we read texts because it's a nice break from doing assignments or anything like that. I also just frankly enjoy reading and think that the activity itself is fun. Not much happened today, but we did take government tests in gym and today was the push up test and I'm pretty proud of my self because I got 30 which is okay it's just the long wait time until you can do the next push up is what tires most people out and all but 2 other people got to 30 like me.

"Two Kinds" Vocab Words

Today we went over vocab words from a short story today. I didn't really learn anything new because I for one knew all but one of the words. The word I think was reverie which means to be lost in ones own thoughts. I don't really like the assignments where you have to find a picture for something because it more or less feels tedious and feels worse than just going over the words again and again. I also liked today because two of my teachers were absent so I didn't really have to do to much in terms of work.

I'm Nobody, Who Are You? Presentations

Today we presented our projects for the poem by Emily Dickenson. We learned and talked about societal expectations and how many people try their hardest to conform to these standards. These people also lead so called dreary lives and if they were to be themselves then they would most likely be a lot more happy. I like presenting because we don't really have to do that much learning and we really just have to listen and talk. Today in my 6th period my teacher raced another student and he almost won but at the end he tripped and fell. He was fine because he's the wrestling coach so hes a tough trooper, but he did cut his hand a tiny bit and got a road burn on his forearm. All the students thought that it was a little concerning but at the same time we all thought that it was pretty funny too.

I'm Nobody, Who Are You?

We went over the I'm Nobody, Who Are You? poem. We learned about how Dickens thinks that it is better to be a nobody/different that a somebody/normal person. Also how normal people like to shout their achievements while the nobodies don't like to be advertised. I did like the little project that we did in the class today it's nice to have talking instead of a quite classroom. I don't really have anything to talk about today was boring.

NewsELA Asians going to be the new largest U.S. immigrant group

We learned about how in the somewhat near future, the Asian immigrant population will be the highest percentage of totalimmigrants in the US. I learned that the birth rates in the biggest percentage of immigrants is going down. The biggest percentage being Hispanics that usually travel to the US or just having family relatives. I'm not the biggest fan of the online lessons they're somewhat boring and not as interesting as the real lessons. I did feel real tired and lethargic today and was a little annoyed that I had some homework to do.

"I, Too"

We read together the "I, Too" poem by Langston Hughes and went over multiple questions. We learned about how people wanted their place at the table and how people should have a nice outlook at their self-identity. I really didn't have a problem with the lesson, it just made me think quite hard. Today also felt quite long like I had to trudge through the day and I couldn't wait to go home. I did get to see my dogs finally after a week and got to finally relax.
