Characterization poster

We didn't really do anything serious we just did a poster for the play Fences where we go over a specific character and anyalis their traits with the STEAL method. At least with these group assignments we do we can choose who we work with so that is makes these things a little bit easier to do. On the next subject I don't really have any opinions on this type of assignment I guess I'm pretty indifferent to it. Also just on the day I've had It was pretty boring but I did win a kahoot but it was a little stressful because I didn't really know much on the subject but I have pretty good common sense so I just made a lot of educated guesses.

Fences characterization notes

Today we read an act of the fences play but before we did that we wrote some notes. We also did the STEAL table about troy and what he did and what he was thinking. I feel like if we were to do those types of tables in the future by ourselves I might have a sliver of trouble completing them but I'm sure that I could pull through. Nothing really happened today but I did start a new book as I had just finished "Animal farm" I just started Farenheit 451 and I'm already 1/3rds through the book and I really enjoy and am interested in the ideas that it present and how it does have a small connection to nowadays. For example how were are always on our phones and always entertaining ourselves and even doing more and more dangerous stuff. But thats about all that I can really think of today.

Sep 23 NEWSELA assignment

Today the teacher was absent so we just did a preplanned assignment on NEWSELA that spoke on the subject of misleading information on the internet when looking for help with symptoms of a sickness. I definently agreed with every thing that the essay wrote about, because my mom is a nurse and she has instilled in me a good sense of health. Plus I have a good head on my shoulders so I don't partake in looking up my symptoms in a search bar. Also in other news last night albeit with the help of my mother, I finished my early submission for a college called Georgia College State and University and I'm actually very impressed with myself for taking this step for my soon up coming future. That's about all that I can think of for this blog, but I will admit that with each of these blogs that I write they do seem to come to me a lot easier than they did at the beginning of the year, so that is a fun little improvement that I've noticed lately.

"For the Love of Books" assesment

Today we didn't do much work, instead we just did an assessment on a short story called "For the Love of Books". I've really been getting back into the swing of reading partially because of the new pouches that have been implemented, I actually just finished reading 1984, not for any class or anything it was really just for fun. Surprisingly I forgot how much I loved to read and I'm about to read Cuthulu or however you spell it, so doing a small assessment where I get to read is honestly decently fun for me. On the other hand nothing really happened today so I was pretty bored with my classes, but since it was Friday I did get to go down into the weight room instead of participating in gym. I also enjoy lifting weights, I didn't really do much except for doing bench presses and I hit 135lb for 3 reps which does make me a little sad because 2 years ago I could do 135lb for like 8 reps and my max was like 155lb, but thats all that really happened today.

Fences questions

Today we did an analysis of the title of the play Fences. We talked about the different types of fences both physical and metaphorical and that how people have a variety of uses for fences, but also that these fences that we put up can be harmful and negative. We also discussed what life was like back then in the 1950's for an African American family, for example that it might be harder financially for those people because of how they were treated. Going back to the fences with the metaphorical ones we talked about how keeping these fences up can be harmful for the people putting them up and for the people around them. I think that questions like these are good because they really make me think and look more internally. On a more neutral note I had gym today and we had gone outside to the track which was nice because you can finally tell that it is September now because the temperature has at last dropped and there is even a nice breeze.

Absent

I was absent on the 15th and the 16th and it is an excused absence because I was sick.

Vocab words

Today we wrote down some vocabulary we have for this week or the next. We also got some sheet to get our parents to sign, which I find kind of funny because I know that my parents wouldn't mind me seeing stuff like that, I guess it's just somehow hard for me to fathom that some peoples parents could be so protective that they wouldn't let them read a book. I did enjoy though that I got to see at least a few new words, because I knew about like 90% of the words in the vocabulary but that 10% I did get to learn. I am also exicted that we finally get to read some form of a longer literature even if it is just a play.

The impact of gender roles

Today we went over gender roles and how thay impact us. We went over some slides and we did an assignment about gender roles and how they impact ourselves and our culture, And how the people around us form our beliefs in what our roles should be. It was an okay class today it wasn´t really my favorite but thats probably because it doesn´t really interest me. I also had a nice easy day today and I had a small quiz which I got an 100 on so that was a nice satisfying second period.

Vocab quiz

Today we did the unit 1 vocabulary quiz, and we also did the last story map presentations for the people who were not present during friday. The vocab quiz was honestly super easy, even thought I forgot about it, I only had to review two words because they we words that I was not wholly familiar with. I've found that even if I may not use complicated words in my vocabulary I'm a lot more knowledgeable about big words than aparently more of my peers. I do actually like doing presentations because I'm pretty comfortable with talking infront of people, I was even hoping that I would go first.

Story Map presentations

Today the class presented their story map projects. I was absent Friday so I have an extension for the project which is nice because one day to finish it is a little stressful. It's really interesting to hear about the differences between each classmates stories and experiences, they're all so different and some are really unique like someone raced with dirt bikes. I'm not the biggest fan of doing presentations, I used to get really stressed and horribly nervous, but I've broken my anti-socialness so I really don't mind anymore. I'm happy today because in gym I got to sit down for the whole period instead of doing some silly activity.

9/3/24 story map

All we did today was just work on our story maps. I was absent on Friday so I started the story map today which is about our personal cultural experiences. Were supposed to share our experiences with the class when we present tomorrow, but I feel like it's a little weird to just be saying our business to the whole class. But other than that Today was kinda quiet, but i did see my sixth period get a delivery of those yonder pouches which I'm really dreading because I love my music and don't function well without it. I mean I even think that I have listening to music in my 504 plan so I don't know how that will work.
